Meet Sydney:
The Therapist (and Mom) Behind In Good Hands
Hi, I’m Sydney—Occupational Therapist with 10 years of experience (mostly in pediatric home health and NICU therapy) and mom of boy/girl twins who decided to come a little early and give me a crash course in NICU life from the parent perspective.
I’ve been through it all—sleep training battles, bottle vs. breast feeding debates, exclusively pumping cry sessions, specialty therapy appointments (for me and the babies), lip tie release, anxious milestone tracking, wondering if I’m doing enough for my twins while also figuring out if my pelvic floor will ever recover (and why no one talks about it).
Working with families in the hospital and seeing families months later at home made one thing clear: we’re not doing enough to prepare parents for life after discharge. New moms need real support right away—not when they’re “ready” or feel “put together.” Because let’s be honest, who actually feels put together with a newborn?
There’s a huge gap in education for NICU parents—and honestly, for all new parents. I’ve seen firsthand the long-term effects of NICU life on babies’ sensory systems, feeding, and development. I’ve also seen how a little extra knowledge, guidance, and support can make a huge difference for your newborn at home.
If you’re in Colorado Springs, I’d love to work with you in-person during those crucial first weeks to months at home. If you’re not local, no worries—I’m happy to offer consults by phone or video. Either way, you’re in good hands here.
My Mission:
To make sure moms aren’t forgotten just because there’s a new baby in the picture. To give parents the tools, resources, and confidence to care for their little ones and themselves. To build a community where moms feel seen, supported, and a little more prepared for this wild ride. Oh, and I hope to make some mom friends along the way because man is it tough out there.
My Promise:
I’m here to make sure you get the real answers, not just the PC, polished advice. Do I have a favorite twin? Depends on the day. Do I obsess over my kids’ milestones even though I know better? Absolutely. Do I think hospitals are setting parents up for success? Eh, mixed reviews. Do I think dads deserve a nap during maternity leave? Sure, as long as it’s in the Taco Bell drive-thru and you bring back a quesadilla.
I don’t know all the answers, but I do know enough to make your transition home easier. I promise to never judge if you want to complain about the hard stuff and I will champion you for all the little stuff (yeah, showering does deserve a medal). I promise to be straight with you, take your concerns seriously, and never give you cringe-worthy answers like “just sleep when the baby sleeps” (are people actually still saying this?). You’re going to get my therapeutic guidance and my mom shoulder to cry on.
